Craftsmanship You Can See

The S1 is byKATO’s most considered piece — and the one that rewards closest inspection. The visible dowelling is not a stylistic choice so much as a statement of intent: this is furniture made the way cabinetmakers have always made furniture, without shortcuts or concealment. There are no hinges, no handles, no metal rails or bearings. The doors slide effortlessly in the grooves that hold them. The drawers run on the shelves that support them (both available to buy separately).  Everything works through precision and material quality alone.

At 200cm wide and 68cm tall, the S1 is a substantial piece — generous enough to anchor a living room or dining room wall, low enough to keep the room feeling open. It is the kind of sideboard that earns its place and then quietly improves everything around it. Due to its solid build, it also works really well as a tv or hi-fi cabinet.

 

Built to Your Configuration

The S1 is designed so that doors and drawers can be purchased and configured separately, allowing you to build the unit exactly as you need it. The doors are reversible and easy to fit without tools or a tradesman. Door fronts are available in a range of colours — if you would like a mix of different coloured doors, contact our team to discuss options and combinations.

As a considered extra, the drawers are designed to double as serving trays — the high sides make them practical for breakfast or light meals away from the table. Additional trays and shelves can be purchased separately to increase storage capability; each tray works best with a shelf above and below it, functioning as a pull-out drawer.

 

Choosing Your Finish

The S1 cabinet is available in three oak finishes. Oak Black Lacquer is the sharpest and most graphic — a strong, contemporary statement. Oak Soap preserves the natural, pale tone of the oak with a matte, tactile finish. Oak Oil and White Oil both offer a warmer, more protected surface that develops a gentle patina over time.
