Carl Hansen CH25 Easy Chair Black Paper Cord

Carl Hansen CH25 Easy Chair Black Paper Cord

Manufacturer: Carl Hansen & Søn

Designer: Hans J. Wegner

The CH25 has been in continuous production since 1950 — a testament to what happens when a designer gets everything right.

Hans J. Wegner's choice of paper cord for the seat and backrest caused a stir when the chair was first introduced. The material — developed as a replacement for seagrass during World War II — had never been used in furniture before. Wegner saw its potential immediately: non-stretching, exceptionally durable, and with a woven texture that rewards close inspection from every angle.

Each seat and backrest is hand-woven by a skilled craftsman using a technique that resembles weaving, visible on both sides of the backrest. It takes 8–10 hours and approximately 400 metres of paper cord to complete a single chair. Here, that cord is black — giving the CH25 a sharper, more graphic character than the natural version, while the underlying quality and craftsmanship remain identical.

The frame is solid oak or walnut, available in a range of finishes.

Also available in Oak and Walnut Lacquered finish, please contact one of our team for more information.
