Carl Hansen VLA62 Radio House Mirror
Manufacturer: Carl Hansen
Designer: Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, 1945
The VLA62 Radio House Mirror was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1945 exclusively for the Royal RetiringĀ Room at the Radio House in Copenhagen, which today houses the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
The Radio House Mirror is now being made available for the first time for a public audience. The mirror features a clear Vilhelm Lauritzen and Radio House identity, with organic, solid oak beautifully framing the mirror image. Relaunching in its original size, a 175cm full-length mirror to hang on the wall. Suitable for both private homes and public spaces such as theatres, hotels, shops, and retail areas in general.
Crafted from FSCā¢-certified solid, oiled oak for a more contemporary, Nordic aesthetic, this full-length mirror isĀ assembled from eight carved pieces that are matched to ensure the distinctive grain is continuous. Sanded by handĀ for a smooth, tactile finish, a deep, concave frame features organic corners that almost embrace the mirror.
Beloved for its durability, oak has long been a staple of Scandinavian design. Its enduring popularity over the centuries means it has become synonymous with quality, longevity, and traditional craftsmanship. Easily recognisable for its lively appearance and strong grain pattern, oakās high content of tannic acid results in an exceptionally tough wood ideally suited for furniture-making. Even when treated, oakās distinctive grain pattern remains visible ā and over time, its colour will gradually evolve into a warm yellowish-brown tone.
