Fritz Hansen Superellipse Extendable Dining Table

Fritz Hansen Superellipse Extendable Dining Table

Manufacturer: Fritz Hansen

Designer: Piet Hein Bruno Mathsson Arne Jacobsen 1968

The table series includes the Super-Elliptical the Super-Circular Circular Square and Rectangular tables designed by Piet Hein Bruno Mathsson and Arne Jacobsen. The most prominent member of the series the Super-Elliptical table was inspired by the designer Piet Hein's solution to a traffic problem at Sergels Torg in Stockholm; A super elliptical roundabout. The ingenious shape was conceived in his mathematical mind. This variation of an oval possessed some attractive qualities and looked surprisingly harmonious no matter the size. The formula based shape has no ends and this is why the Super-Elliptical table can be seen as a democratic table where everyone has an equal position. Bruno Mathsson and Arne Jacobsen contributed to the base design of all the tables.

The Table Series comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. The tables are available in two finishes; laminate and walnut veneer. The laminate versions come with an aluminum edge, while the veneer versions come with a veneer edge. Some tables come with a 4- or 6-star base, made of satin polished aluminum with a satin chromed steel pedestal (two heights), while other tables have span legs (3 heights) in chromed steel. Selected tables with span legs (height 72 cm) are also available in white, black or grey powder coated steel.

The B619 180cm to 300cm and B620 170cm to 270cm extendable Super-Elliptical (Super Ellipse) Table with standard 72cm height chromed Span legs. The 2 extension leaves live under the table and so are always handy when you need to extend the table. Either one or both leaves can be used and so this makes the table very versatile.
