Louis Poulsen PH 5 Pendant Light

Louis Poulsen PH 5 Pendant Light

Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen

Designer: Poul Henningsen

Danish writer, designer, and architectĀ Poul Henningsen (1894-1967) had a vision – to capture the golden hour. In 1958, he created the PH 5 in response to incandescent bulbs and the constant changes in their shape and size and the consequent risk of glare – something PH wanted to avoid. The result was a striking and versatile lamp that could accommodate any bulb. This soon became the PH lamp in Denmark, used in public buildings and private homes.Ā

Known as the PH lamp, the iconic PH 5 design is based on Henningsen’s renowned three-shade system. The pyramid-like fixture effuses both descending and lateral light to illuminate itself. This ensures the light is soft, rich, and completely glare-free.Ā

PH5 provides glare-free lighting. The design of the visible reflectors directs light both vertically and horizontally. The pendant emits a warm tone of light.

The fixture provides a comfortable, glare-free light, based on the principle of Poul Henningsen’s reflective three-shade system, which directs the majority of the light downwards. It emits a lateral light as well as illuminating itself, providing a soft radiance from within its core. The lower shade is furthermore fitted with a frosted diffuser glass to ensure that the downward directed light is 100% glare-free.

Cable and canopy: Monochrome Black: Black cable and canopy.

All others: White cable and canopy.

Lightsource required (not supplied):Ā Max 75W E27

Please note that the copper and brass surface is untreated. This means that the surface will change over time and develop a patina. This process may have already begun when the product is delivered.
