Louis Poulsen VL38 Floor Lamp

Louis Poulsen VL38 Floor Lamp

Manufacturer: Louis Poulsen

Designer: Vilhelm Lauritzen

Louis Poulsen are relaunching the studio lamp that was originally designed specifically for the Radiohuset building in Copenhagen. The new model will be launched under the name of VL38 Table Lamp, and Louis Poulsen will be introducing it as part of a series that also features VL38 wall and floor lights.

Vilhelm Lauritzen, one of the most prominent architects of the modernist and functionalist movements, designed the Radiohuset building and he also created all the light fittings for the project in partnership with Louis Poulsen. The VL38 Table Lamp was originally called the studio lamp because it was used in all the radio studios in the building.

The VL38 family is being launched in its original design, where the lamp head is organically shaped, painted white and obliquely angled. The arms of the light fittings are made of brass, and all the lamps have been fitted with LED light sources to accommodate contemporary advances in light technology and energy efficiency.

Concept: The fixture emits downward directed light. The angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimise light distribution. The shade is painted white on the inside to ensure a soft comfortable light.

Mounting: Cable type: Plastic cord. Cable length: 4m. Light control: In-line switch on cord. 2 light levels. LED driver: separate, plugs into power outlet.

Class: Ingress protection IP20.

Please note that the brass surface is untreated. This means that the surface will change over time and develop a patina the patination process may have already begun at delivery. The surfaces will patinate in different stages before reaching the intentional dark golden colour, but before reaching this stage, the surface will have dark spots or areas, which can look like an error. This is however not the case, but fully expected. The surface will continue to patinate and gain the beautiful darker surface over time. The spots and markings will align and disappear with time.
